How to use ChoiceApp

When you are ready, click ‘START’. You will be guided through a series of introduction screens explaining what the survey questions will include, how long the survey will take and advice on how to select your preferences.

If you would like to start the survey at a later date, you will also receive an email with a link to the survey, to complete when you’re ready.

You will be guided through approximately 15 - 20 questions. For each question you will be shown a hypothetical “treatment profile” where you will have the option to pick what you think is the BEST treatment feature and the WORST treatment feature in each profile. There are no right or wrong answers, it is purely about your personal preferences.

To select the BEST feature, swipe right (it will appear green). To select the WORST feature, swipe left (it will appear red). Work through each question one at a time, clicking NEXT to move from one treatment profile to the next.

Once complete, simply click ‘SUBMIT ANSWERS’ and you will be taken to a page where you can view your personalised report.

The report is generated based on your answers. It will categorise treatment features by their level of importance to you, from higher importance to moderate importance to lower importance. This does not mean that those in “lower importance” category are not important to you, it simply means they are less important compared to other aspects of treatment.

The report page will provide you with additional information on how to interpret your report.

Clicking on the orange icon in the top left-hand corner will allow you to email a PDF copy of the report to an email address of your choosing. You may want to email a copy to yourself, a family member, or someone on your healthcare team. You can also print your report, and then bring a hard copy with you to your next appointment.

Your results can also be accessed any time through the “REPORTS” section in the App.

You can talk to your healthcare professional about your results at any time, but they might be most useful during a consultation where you are discussing starting a new treatment or changing treatments. If you do the survey ahead of the consultation, then your results can help you prepare for the appointment and guide the discussion.

If you are not sure where to start, consider telling your healthcare professional about what your preferences are and ask them about how these preferences can be incorporated into treatment decisions. Your results might also bring up new questions that you want to ask, such as questions about your disease area or treatment options available to you.

After you have completed the Treatment Preferences Survey and have had a consultation with your healthcare professional following survey completion, don’t forget to come back and share your experiences through the “ChoiceApp Follow-Up Survey”. By completing this short 5-minute questionnaire you can help us improve ChoiceApp and support other patients in shared decision-making.
